The San Marino special stage of the Rally Legend 2016 has ended tragically for one man, who was killed on the spot.
According to TheSun, 57-year old Henry Anselmino was watching the event from a spectator zone when a Renault Clio, driven by Bonaso Enrico and Palazzi Alice, plunged into the bales at high speed before hitting the crowd, at 11:56 am (local time).
When the rescuers arrived at the scene, the man was already dead, and they pursued to treat the other eight people wounded, who were transferred to the hospital by ambulances. The organizers have cancelled the special stage immediately after the unfortunate incident, marking the end of the entire event. Moreover, the award ceremony was left aside, as a sign of respect for the victims.
“In relation to the dynamics of the accident, it was pointed out that this is a mistake of driving of the crew, even if the consequences are gone, to a tragic accident, but also beyond strict security measures taken in the place of the left“, the organizers wrote on their Facebook page.
The Rally Legend has become a successful motorsport event thanks to the presence of classic rally cars, including the well-known Audi Quattro, and it’s not uncommon to see WRC drivers put the racers through their paces during the special stages.
