A prototype of the upcoming 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS was recently filmed testing on the streets of California.
Looking and sounding like an absolute beast, even at idle, it’s immediately apparent that the latest model developed by Porsche Motorsport will be its craziest yet and welcome back the Widow Maker into the Porsche range in emphatic style.
Compared to prototypes filmed across Europe in recent months, this particular car was fitted with the front louvers of the 911 GT3 RS, though they could be ditched in the production car. Other unique elements are the redesigned rear wing, bespoke twin tailpipe design and rear bumper that’s clearly still a work in progress.
According to reports, the new GT2 RS will be so ballistic that the brand will skip a new-age, ‘standard’ GT2 entirely. Power will come from a twin-turbocharged flat-six pumping out up to 650 HP and promising to make the model the fastest in the 911 range and just shy of the 918 Spyder.
A dual-clutch transmission will come standard but there’s a chance a manual may be offered. After all, Porsche will roll out the facelifted GT3 with an old-fashioned stick shift.
